How we keep our Action Team participants safe

Peace of mind on your gap year

The safety and wellbeing of our participants is of paramount importance to us, which is reflected in our conformity to BS8848:2014 –the British Standard for organising and managing visits, fieldwork, expeditions, and adventurous activities outside the UK. This is a rigorous set of standards, which govern our approach to supervision, risk management, security, contingency planning, crisis management and more.

Supporting documentation

“BMS shines in every area – preparation before the mission, support during and debrief facilities afterwards. BMS has been a breath of fresh air and has done themselves proud – well done chaps.”
Minister, Action Team tour

Over the past 20 years, BMS has successfully and safely sent hundreds of gap year students to a variety of overseas locations through our Action Team gap year programme. With our unique overseas network of BMS long-term workers and national partner organisations, those involved in short-term mission work alongside long-term workers are able to provide practical and pastoral support of the highest quality.
We carefully consider the security of team members during their time overseas, and provide extensive guidelines and training for teams in personal safety and security.
If you (or your parents!) have any questions or concerns about your safety whilst on BMS Action Teams, feel free to get in touch with us – we’d be more than happy to speak with you! You can call us on 01235 517647 or email

“I want to thank you and your team, on behalf of my husband and I, for all that was done for these young people to give them such a great opportunity to learn more about God and themselves whilst abroad and on tour. We were very impressed with the depth and quality of the selection process and the initial training. The professionalism shown by all the BMS team has made a huge difference in reassuring us.”
