The team experience

Ecuador

My action team year has affected me in many ways. I was living out my childhood dream of being a ‘jungle explorer’ as I worked in various communities found alongside the roadsides, riverside and in the jungle of Ecuador. I experienced and witnessed first hand God’s amazing provision and learned the value and the truth in the verse 1 Cor 15:58 – in Spanish this is summarised by 4 words ‘no es en vano’ (it isn’t in vain) knowing that whatever work we did, be it working in PEPE, running children’s clubs, translating for medical teams, painting churches or simply by being there – when it was for God – he would use it and as a team we saw God use us.

Throughout my time I also experienced challenges, one of which was the necessity of learning a new language as we worked alongside natives who did not speak any English. This, although frustrating at times, was ultimately incredibly rewarding and encouraged us to rely upon and trust in God all the more. It enabled us to build up relationships with the people there and taught us the value of the individual - a lesson that was significant during our UK tour.
