Does age matter? |
|
Generally speaking - no. As long as you are in good health, we're happy to take you whether you are 21 or 60 or somewhere in-between. Whether you are just setting out in life with your qualifications, are middle-aged or taking early retirement, we'd still like to hear from you.

What about children? |
|
We are as concerned as you are about your children's welfare and their education. We aim to provide children with education which enables them to re-enter the British system without difficulty.

Do we have to raise our support? |
|
A monthly allowance is paid to longer-term personnel. We also provide a contributory pension scheme.

Will BMS train us? |
|
You'll spend time in quality training at the BMS International Mission Centre in Birmingham. This will include biblical and cross-cultural studies, orientation to your locations, and making links with your supporting churches. During your time back in the UK, you'll have the opportunity to visit your link churches, be given thorough debriefs by BMS UK staff and have opportunities to further your professional skills where possible.

How does selection work? |
|
The process includes individual interviews with BMS staff, a medical and psychological assessment, taking up of references and a two-day residential selection conference. It is an exciting time which seeks to confirm your future work and calling.

What about pastoral care overseas? |
|
BMS has experienced and knowledgeable staff overseeing all the areas in which it works. Once you're overseas, they provide pastoral care for you through regular visits. It is often said that our pastoral and medical care of personnel is second-to-none.

What might stop me being accepted? |
In applying to work with BMS, there are some basic requirements:
- You must be a committed Christian with a real desire to share the good news of Christ, by words and actions. We work with Baptist Unions and Christian organisations overseas and can only send people who are acceptable to them.
- You must be already involved in your local church and have their support - most applicants come from Baptist churches.
- You must be psychologically and physically fit enough to obtain clearance from our medical advisors.
- You must be ordinarily resident in the UK.
- You will be asked to obtain a Criminal Records Bureau enhanced disclosure before going overseas.
