BMS World Mission

4 years plus

Going overseas for a longer period of time is one of the most satisfying and fulfilling things you can do with your life.

To be accepted and integrated into a culture takes time - years! There is no short-cut or fast-track system. Learning the language of a people is key to understanding their way of thinking - their worldview. Building relationships that last takes time, patience and effort. BMS World Mission has always sent long-term personnel and continues to do so; people who have a commitment to spending many years overseas and a desire to give of themselves completely in order to share Jesus.

"Going overseas for an extended period of time is one of the most satisfying and fulfilling things you can do with your life. You get to thoroughly understand a language, culture and people and can make a deep level input into a country and people. You can become known as someone who can lead, disciple, influence and teach - but this takes time.

Janet Quarry, Long-term Mission Co-ordinator

Everyone working with us is unique and special - both to God and to us. There is no stereotype.

Our overseas workers come from a variety of backgrounds:

  • Different ages
  • Different skills to offer
  • Single people, couples and couples with children
  • Most are from the UK and all are members of UK churches, most of which are Baptist.

All of our long-term personnel are convinced that God is calling them to make a difference in people's lives as they share life in all its fullness.
