Spicy Tunisian meatballs
BMS worker Steve shares this great recipe from Tunisia:
Meatballs
Ingredients:
1lb minced beef- Garlic
- Breadcrumbs and egg
- Mix and make into small balls
Sauce:
Ingredients:
- 1 tin tomato purée
- 1 tin chopped tomatoes
- 1 onion
- 2 carrots, grated
- Bay leaves
- 2 tps Tumeric
- 1 tsp local Tunisian spice (each little shop makes its own mix of spices – you can be creative with your own mix of cumin, chilli, ginger, nutmeg, cayenne pepper, etc)
- Garlic and pepper (how you like it)
- Tin of chickpeas
Method:
1)
Fry onion, add garlic, add spices and hot water (as much to make a good sauce!)
2) Add meatballs and cook for 30-40 minutes.
3) Add tin of chickpeas. Serve with rice.
Steve says: “I’ve no idea how many it will serve - probably four, but I just make it and freeze what I don't eat for another day!”
