The Mahon family will train at IMC before going to Peru as part of the long-term programme. They will be based in Iquitos and join with the Loreto Association of Baptist Churches as they look to implement a sustainability plan over the coming years. They will be involved in teaching and curriculum development at the Nauta Integral Mission Training Centre, and they’ll also support the running of the centre. Dave and Michele are both Baptist ministers, and have served at Brockley Baptist Church in south-east London for four years. Dave and Michele have three children: Jonathan who is five, Ruth who is two and Phoebe who is one.

I had the opportunity of attending my first Spanish Speaking church service last Sunday. Iglesia Misionera Evangélica meets at St. James, an Anglican Church located at Muswell Hill, London.

The church is situated in a very busy location in the town, amongst numerous shops, pubs and restaurants. The building dates back to the early 20th century, a very big and grand place, both inside and out.

Michele and I were privileged to have an informal chat with Samuel Escobar, a leading Latin American theologian and Missiologist.

Samuel was one of the twelve speakers this year’s Catalyst Live 2016. Prior to him speaking in Birmingham, we were able grab a little time in the evening with him here at IMC.

In our preparation for our Mission to Peru next year, I’ve had a chance to read a few of books on Integral mission, including his book, ‘The New Global Mission.’ Escobar’s takes integral mission in a more challenging direction. IMC is a place where Mission Trainees are prepared for our service abroad. We live and study here at in Selly Oak in Birmingham. Here is a summary of one of our training weeks.

Monday

Phil Grasham, Mission Trainer, took us through some ideas about how to understand another culture; looking at cultural norms and important celebrations, diet, family structure and other aspects, emphasising the importance of using the familiar to introduce gospel concepts.

Then Clare Ord, IMC Co Director asked for feedback on the first half of the term, to inform their planning for next term. We gave her some good pointers including our preference for no assignments (...

The Roaming African

I once had a vision.  This is what I saw – people from a different country arising out of a fountain, calling me to help them.  Later God led me to Acts 15:8-10, where Paul saw in a vision, a man from Macedonia.  This experience was so significant that it put in me a longing to serve God abroad in mission, and led me to end my university course and embark on a youth ministry degree with Oasis.  I shared my vision with my husband and he got excited about the opportunity to serve God abroad; however discerning the right time was the next hurdle.  Now?  In 2 years?  In 5 years?  We decided to keep praying about this and watching to see what...
