Readers of this periodical will be familiar with previous works by this author including The Spirit of Buddhism. Here the author offers a Christian perspective on Hindu life and thought.  He sets the book in its historical context in India and also includes material on Islam in India and Christian missions to that country. However the majority of this text is devoted to India’s most popular religion.

The Spirit of Hinduism is written in a popular style making it accessible to most people interested in finding out more about Hinduism. There are notes for further study including web resources and even suggestions for inter-faith discussions. Recommended.

Reviewer: Brian Talbot, minister of Broughty Ferry Baptist Church, Dundee
