Transforming lives on four continents

In obedience to Baptism as a church Ordinance

Posted by Benon Kayanja at 08:07 on 6th July 2017

Last Saturday was a powerful day as new converts at Sanctuary of Worship (SOW) were introduced to the practice and the significance of one of the vital church ordinances of Baptism.

The Vision of the Global Outreach Day (G.O.D) for the year 2017 as was done on 27th May 2017 to mobilize Christians in over 200 nations to bring the Gospel to everyone, everywhere – whether online and on the streets, Saw 67 people come to know Christ in the neighborhood of SOW. This was a great harvest considering that many other churches had arranged the same activity in their neighborhoods.

The follow-up mechanism with the SOW Ministry was able to get 11 new converts who would enroll for the church ordinance of baptism as well as availing themselves for spiritual food, care and other aspects of discipleship in order to bring them to spiritual maturity and fruitfulness.

The 11 went through three week training where we emphasized to them that accepting Christ was the most significant action a person can ever make in life and along that journey, one of the first important steps a new believer takes is the step of baptism. The emphasis was that of Christian Baptism as the immersion of a believer in water symbolizing new life in Christ and testifying to the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ. New Testament baptism is always by immersion and only practiced after one’s profession of faith in Christ.

Working alongside with Pr. Isaac Byamukama, these 11 were taken to Lake Victoria’s Gaba Landing site and baptized, an experience many of these converts will never forget in their lives.

We now have the responsibility of walking with these ones in their journey of faith to maturity as spiritual parents.  Paul in the bible considered himself a spiritual parent to those he won to faith in Christ. To the Corinthians he said:  “…For though ye have ten thousand instructors in Christ, yet not many fathers: for in Christ Jesus I have begotten you through the gospel. Wherefore I beseech, be ye followers of me” (1 Corinthians 4:15-16).

Pray with us that as leaders we will be strong enough both in the Spirit and physically to stand with these new Converts as well as finding the right Christian resource materials at least a bible in their local languages for their Spiritual growth.
