Appointed in 2006, Julia – a primary school teacher – arrived in Brazil at the end of July 2007. After studying Portuguese in Fortaleza and getting to know about Brazilian culture, both inside and outside the churches she moved up to the state of Maranhão, north Brazil, to support the work of establishing the pre-school education programme (PEPE) in poor and marginalised communities in that part of the country.

In December 2011, Julia married Elpidio dos Santos de Jesus (Ethan). The couple will be returning to the UK over Easter 2012 so that Ethan may improve his English. He will then undergo training at IMC in September of 2012 for a year before they both travel to a new (as yet undecided) country in 2013.

Julia is from Canterbury Baptist Church.
