Media & advocacy
In the Middle East and north Africa, people’s lives are being transformed as they encounter Jesus through programmes broadcast on Christian satellite TV station SAT-7, one of BMS’ partner organisations.
Working in a support ministry to this, BMS workers Andrea and Ian are based in Spain, working with BMS partner, Málaga Media Centre (MMC). They are part of a team that produces media – including radio, websites, music videos, topical programmes and film – to convey biblical truth to people.
Television programmes speak into people’s lives, often in countries where mission personnel cannot openly work.
However, in Uganda where one can be a Christian openly, people wrongly imprisoned have found lawyers to speak out for them, thanks to the work of the Ugandan Christian Lawyers’ Fraternity (UCLF), a team of Ugandan lawyers and BMS personnel. In the year April 2008 – March 2009, the UCLF helped over 37,000 people. Some benefitted through their paralegal advisory service, fighting injustices of the system where prisoners are kept in custody without charge and without trial and are not advised of their rights. BMS lawyer Jenny Riddell has helped in the legal education aspect of this work.
