Development
Development is always about improving the quality of life for the poor and Christian development has a greater vision: that through the love shared and the dignity offered by development activity, each person might come to experience life in all its fullness and be reconciled to God.
BMS is committed to send people and resources in order to alleviate poverty and encourage sustainable development.
In Afghanistan, BMS personnel work with the poor and voiceless to help build literacy and business skills. This includes enabling women and young girls to learn to read and write which, in turn helps them to provide for themselves and their families and gives them some self-worth.
In rural Nepal, people have had their lives transformed through the building of toilets and construction of biogas plants, which provide fuel for cooking, an initiative led by BMS personnel, with the support of Operation Agri.
In Tunisia, children with special needs, vulnerable young people and single mothers are being cared for by staff, trained and supported by BMS personnel.
Meanwhile in Peru, Harland Rivas-Thurgood works in a church-based community development in the town of Iquitos, in the heart of the Amazon rainforest. Here he is focusing on environmental education, and water and sanitation initiatives.
