Graeme and Jenny Riddell have lived in Kasese, western Uganda since August 2008 supporting and encouraging rural church pastors through legal and education work.
Jenny is a lawyer and co-ordinates the work of the Uganda Christian Lawyers Fellowship (UCLF) in western Uganda. Her main focus is on legal education in churches, communities and on the radio to teach people the law of Uganda from a biblical perspective in order to help them protect the most vulnerable in society. Jenny also visits local prisons to teach prisoners how to represent themselves in court and helps oversee a
programme where prisoners charged with serious crimes (sometimes falsely) are provided with a defence in court. Together with a Ugandan lawyer, Jenny also helps to mediate and give advice in civil disputes often involving widows and other powerless victims.
Graeme is a teacher and works as an education advisor with the Baptist Union of Uganda inspecting and advising Baptist schools on how to fulfil their mission of providing ‘quality education based on Biblical principles’. Graeme runs training courses for school leaders and teachers on both school improvement and the discipleship of young people. He also helps the UCLF with the development and delivery of Christian child rights programmes.
In their spare time, Graeme and Jenny love to camp and trek in the African wilds on their doorstep where Graeme spends most of his time hunting flora and fauna with a camera whilst Jenny patiently tolerates this obsession. On a regular basis they enjoy reading, watching DVDs and keeping up with current affairs. Graeme is an avid sports fan (although increasingly from the armchair).
Their home churches are Perth Baptist Church in Scotland and South Ruislip Christian Fellowship in outer London.
