InfoIndonesia is the world's largest archipelago with approximately 13,000 islands, over 3,000 of which are inhabited. One of the islands, Java, has a population of over 100 million. Sometimes described as a beautiful necklace of pearls set in the ocean, it now appears that the string has snapped. Thousands of people have died in recent years in the country as a result of independence struggles, communal violence, religious differences, political uncertainty and economic upheaval.
Although there are no long-term workers sent from the UK in Indonesia, BMS World Mission supports over 20 partner workers who are involved in church planting and evangelism on the islands of Sumatra and Nias. BMS partners the Convention of Baptist Churches in Indonesia (KGBI).
