Moving the Kathmandu way (07/07/2009)

07/07/2009 update

"Well, we made it!  I’m sitting typing at a desk in our new home.  Yesterday was an epic seven hour adventure, but we got the last piece of furniture inside 20 minutes before the heavens opened and it poured with rain.  Judging by the humidity today, monsoon started in earnest last night, so we made it just in time.

Our church family were just wonderful.  At 7.30 am they turned up at our house with 12 young men and we had all our stuff outside waiting for the vehicle 45 minutes later – quite a feat.

Thanks so much for all your prayers and support this week.  I don’t think we’d have made it through so smoothly without you.  Please would you pray for us in our new home as we start to get to know our landlady and the new neighbours.

Butterworth, Martin & Katrina (Nepal)
Martin and Katrina Butterworth, BMS mission workers in Nepal, are moving house. They ask for prayer for the logistics of the move:

"Moving here is not quite as simple as the British experience of choosing which removal company to use.

For a start, the only goods vehicles allowed to move around in the city during the day are small ‘pick-up’ trucks.  We're not sure how many journeys it will take to move our stuff but we are hoping it can be completed in one day.  The pick-ups are all open-backed, so as the monsoon is already late there is a real risk of all our things getting soaked.

One difficulty is the driver won't carry any furniture or boxes, so the plan is to hire a group of lads from church to help with the carrying.

Where we live is roughly 200m along narrow alleys and up a flight of stairs.  The new place is very similar and doesn't have vehicle access.  This means that all our things have to be carried down and up stairs, through narrow gateways and along alleyways to the nearest place the pick-up can reach.

All this in temperatures pushing towards 40°C and a high probability of monsoon rain, so we'd appreciate your prayers.
