Ten women reach 7,000 in Thailand (16/06/2009)

What influence can one person have? In Thailand, ten women’s workers have visited, encouraged and taught 7,000 Karen women.

The Karen are a tribal people group living on the Thai/Burma border. BMS World Mission works with the Karen Baptist Convention (KBC), and supports nine of the ten women’s workers of the Thailand Karen Baptist Women’s Union (TKBWU). The Union has ten Associations and 147 churches, with over 7,000 members in the women’s group.

The women’s workers visit the churches in their Association. Their work includes:
  • Leading Bible studies
  • Leading worship and prayer, and teaching new songs
  • Visiting people who are ill or have problems
  • Encouraging the women to work together
  • Teaching handicrafts
  • Attending leadership training and meetings

"I would like to give thanks to God for he has done great things for me. He leads me as I work with women’s group. I tried to help people in this way and I do enjoy my work among them. Even though I have met problems I know that always God will be with me.

Praise God for the work of these ten women and pray for the many women they meet to know Christ in their lives.

Pray for:
  • God’s spirit to continue working through the women’s workers
  • safe travel to the many churches, especially those difficult to reach
  • unity among the Karen churches
  • families who are facing problems
