BMS World Mission

Statement from Alistair Brown

A statement from Alistair Brown, General Director of BMS World Mission

Earlier this year we alerted our constituency to financial concerns affecting BMS.  Over the intervening months we have done what we could to reduce costs, to stimulate existing channels of income, and begin to develop new ones.

But because over the last two to three years increases in giving have been at less than inflation and there has been lower than average legacy income, the net result has been unsustainable deficits.

No current BMS mission work around the world is affected but we’re looking to make savings of close to £300,000 per year at the UK end.

We believe that by wise re-organisation we can continue to deliver excellent service to churches and in recruitment and training of mission personnel, as well as in support of our partners and operations around the world. However we are now in a consultation phase with a small number of staff members whose posts are in an ‘at risk’ category.

There’s a deep sadness for all of us that this should be necessary but we must take the right steps at the right time to ensure the wellbeing of our mission work.

Please hold all who are concerned in your prayers asking that God guides and directs in all the decisions which must be made this summer.
