Appointed in 2006, Julia – a primary school teacher – arrived in Brazil at the end of July 2007 and is now studying Portuguese in Fortaleza and getting to know about Brazilian culture, both inside and outside the churches. In 2008 she will move up to the Amazonian region of north Brazil to begin work to establish the pre-school education programme (PEPE) in poor and marginalised communities in that part of the country.
