Ecuador

Info
Ecuador is characterised by a rich diversity of climatic regions ranging from mountainous, to tropical rainforest to coastal plain. The largest urban centre is the coastal city of Guayaquil with two million-plus inhabitants. It is here that the fast-spreading slums form such a dramatic challenge to the 120 or so Ecuadorian Baptist churches.

Two BMS couples are based in Guayaquil: the Butchers, who are involved in church work and urban poverty and the Clarks, who in addition to helping new workers settle into Ecuadorian life, are designing a nationwide mission leaders programme. With the growth of the PEPE programme in South America, BMS worker Kay Newton is acting as co-ordinator of the pre-school programme in Quito.

The Baptist Convention of Ecuador has engaged in partnerships with BMS to strengthen the mission work of the churches through the development of programmes that help local churches to bring together the social and evangelistic dimensions of the gospel.
