Christians around the world joined in prayer with BMS World Mission on 4 March. The BMS Day of Prayer was set aside as a day for fasting and petitioning God on behalf of BMS partners, workers and the people with whom they work.
The day was broken up into hour-long sessions, attended by staff at BMS head office in Didcot, but acts of solidarity in prayer took place across the globe.
In Asia, BMS workers Pete and Lizz Maycock met with the Thailand Action Team to pray, while Sarah Hall, a BMS worker in Guinea, met with local partners who put aside an hour to pray for BMS to be thrust into a new level of listening to God and a new level of faith. Meanwhile, senior partners in Tunisia set aside time in a strategic meeting for Gordon McBain, BMS Regional Secretary for the Middle East and North Africa, to lead a time of prayer for the region and BMS work elsewhere. In Nepal, Margaret Gibbs, BMS Regional Secretary for Asia, met with local Christians to pray and BMS partners in Afghanistan sent word that they too would be praying.
Across Britain and the world, many more Christians – BMS workers, partners and just those whose lives have been touched by God through the ministries of BMS – joined in prayer for the future of the organisation started by William Carey over 200 years ago.
BMS offers humble thanks to every person and church who joined with us and asks that you continue to pray with us.
“Prayer is a daily part of supporting our work,” said BMS Director for Mission, David Kerrigan, “and the Day of Prayer was just a part of what must be an ongoing process of seeking God’s will for this work and relying on his blessing to sustain it.”
